The industrial textile industry in our country had a good start in 2021, with the industrial added value of enterprises above designated size increasing by 58.9% year-on-year in January-February. The resumption of work and production in enterprises in 2021 was better than in previous years. According to a survey conducted by our association at the end of February on more than 400 member enterprises, over 70% of enterprises have restored more than 80% of their production capacity, with the proportions of enterprises considering their current operating conditions as good and relatively good reaching 13.4% and 52.1%, respectively.

All sectors within the industrial textile industry also maintained a high growth rate. The operating income of non-woven fabric enterprises above designated size was 22.68 billion yuan in January-February, a year-on-year increase of 70.3%, with a total profit of 1.58 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 144.5%, and a profit margin of 7.0%, an increase of 2.1 percentage points year-on-year; the operating income and total profit of rope, cord, cable enterprises above designated size increased by 55.4% and 114.6% year-on-year, with a profit margin of 5.8%, an increase of 1.6 percentage points year-on-year; the operating income and total profit of textile belts and curtain fabric enterprises above designated size increased by 54.2% and 350.8% year-on-year, with a profit margin of 5.2%, an increase of 3.5 percentage points year-on-year; the operating income and total profit of tent and canvas enterprises above designated size increased by 43% and 182.8% year-on-year, with a profit margin of 5.4%, an increase of 2.3 percentage points year-on-year; the operating income and total profit of other industrial textile enterprises in the medical, filtration, and geotechnical sectors above designated size achieved year-on-year growth rates of 66% and 123.9%, with a profit margin of 6.3%, an increase of 1.6 percentage points year-on-year.

In terms of international trade, looking at the main export products, the export value of non-woven fabrics, special yarns, ropes, cords, cables, and their products (customs commodity classification Chapter 56) reached 1.36 billion USD in January-February, a year-on-year increase of 82.9%, of which the export of non-woven fabrics was 820 million USD, a year-on-year increase of 82.9%; the export value of industrial textiles (customs commodity classification Chapter 59) was 1.32 billion USD, a year-on-year increase of 40%; the export value of disposable sanitary products was 350 million USD, a year-on-year increase of 23.8%. In terms of epidemic prevention materials, the export of protective clothing made from chemical fiber non-woven fabrics (including medical protective clothing) was 760 million USD, a year-on-year increase of 543.8%; the export of unnamed textile products (including masks) was 3.06 billion USD, a year-on-year increase of 374.4%.

The significant growth of various economic indicators in the industrial textile industry in January-February 2021 is partly due to the fact that economic activities in the industry were basically stagnant during the same period in 2020 due to the Spring Festival and the COVID-19 pandemic, and the production of epidemic prevention materials had not yet started on a large scale, resulting in a low industrial base; on the other hand, the industry continued the trend of rapid growth in 2021, with a certain global demand for epidemic prevention materials; third, with the large-scale vaccination globally, the market outlook for demand rebound and economic recovery after the pandemic is relatively optimistic.
