Invista and its joint venture partner announced the decision to implement a new adiponitrile technology at their Butachimie joint venture in France. Invista's new technology will be completed through the modification of existing equipment, with plans for official implementation in the second quarter of 2019.

Invista's new adiponitrile technology has been successfully implemented at the Orange plant in Texas. Compared to existing technology, the new technology increases output, reduces energy consumption, decreases greenhouse gas emissions, and improves process stability and capital efficiency.

"We successfully implemented the new adiponitrile technology at the Orange plant, and the results exceeded expectations. We look forward to bringing this technology to other plants, benefiting the entire market," said Bill Greenfield, President of Invista's Intermediates Business. "Since we began commercial operations of this technology in 2014, the Orange plant has increased output and achieved record production with process stability."

Other Investments

Invista will implement this new technology at its Victoria plant in Texas, which is currently in the internal evaluation and regulatory approval stage, with plans for formal implementation in the fourth quarter of 2020.

"We expect that the additional capacity from implementing this new technology at several of Invista's existing plants will be equivalent to building a new adiponitrile plant," Greenfield continued. "Our significant investment in this advanced technology is Invista's contribution to the nylon 6,6 industry, while also achieving sustainability in the value chain for both Invista and its customers."

In China, Invista's 215,000-ton adipamine plant and 150,000-ton polymer plant, built in the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park, were put into production in 2016. There is strong interest from customers and stakeholders in the value chain regarding Invista's plan to build a new adiponitrile plant in the chemical zone, and Invista is currently evaluating this.

"The demand for nylon 6,6 continues to grow. We believe that Invista needs to build a new adiponitrile plant in China, and we foresee that implementing the new adiponitrile technology will bring benefits," said Li Kai, Vice President of Invista's Nylon Intermediates Business for the Asia-Pacific region. "We have received strong interest from stakeholders in the value chain to participate in our new adiponitrile plant, and we are actively engaging with relevant parties to evaluate various participation methods, which may be more valuable for industry development and customers." Mr. Li was awarded the Magnolia Memorial Award by the Shanghai Municipal Government in recognition of his and Invista's contributions to industry development.
